In 79ad a volcano called MT Vesuvius blew up and covered Pompeii and Herculaneum.
The top of the Volcano flew up to 20km high. All the ash and gases that came from the volcano had killed lots of people instently. Some people thought that they would be able to hide from the explotion but anybody in Pompeii or Herculaneum would have dide.
The ash from the volcano went up to 6m high, compltly distroying the two places.
A cople days after the eruption it had rained, that made the ash that covered the two places harden and
make it like syment.
Pompeii and Herculaneum wasn't discoved agian until about1,000 years later.
